Yuexiang Lake: A Unique Blend of Tradition and Modernity

Tengyuan Design's Award-Winning Exhibition Center in Shenyang

The project, located in Yuhong District, Shenyang, is a testament to Tengyuan Design's commitment to preserving the city's traditional context while meeting regional aesthetic needs. The design team, consisting of Huang Jian, Chu Yuliang, and Sun Bo, extracted multiple courtyard space structures from oriental traditional courtyard culture to create a high-quality space system. The result is a new Chinese style architecture that embodies the temperament of life.

The entrance gate, made of Portuguese Beige stone, stands 9 meters high and 32 meters wide, resembling overlapping ranges of high mountains. The ground of the first reception courtyard is made of gray granite, symbolizing brilliance, splendor, and prosperity. The sunken club, with a controlled height of 6.6 meters, forms a reasonable spatial enclosure.

The design process was not without its challenges. The team had to differentiate their design from the prevalent Chinese style and other styles in Shenyang, reshape the cultural charm of Mukden, and combine it with modern aesthetic connotations to establish the new product spirit of Shenyang's residence. They overcame these challenges by adopting a modern architectural form, architectural technology, and materials while maintaining a traditional form.

The project started on August 1, 2018, and was completed on June 27, 2019. The design research was rooted in the local context of Shenyang, respecting the needs of regional aesthetics, and creating a story situation. The team aimed to create the traditional Chinese artistic conception using modern techniques, paying more attention to the spiritual core of the Chinese nationality.

The Yuexiang Lake project is a shining example of how designers can successfully integrate traditional and modern elements to create a unique, high-quality space. Tengyuan Design's commitment to preserving traditional aesthetics while pushing the boundaries of modern design is truly commendable.
